Why WhisperBee

Plenty of apps will let you log a hive inspection. WhisperBee is built around the inspection itself — the part with sticky gloves, a buzzing apiary, and details that evaporate the moment you walk back to the truck. This page is a plain answer to the question we get most: what does that actually mean?

What makes WhisperBee different from other beekeeping apps?

WhisperBee is voice-first, captures fully offline, and is tuned for beekeeping vocabulary. Speak at the hive with gloves on; recordings save locally even with no signal, and AI extracts structured fields when the network returns. Prefer typing? Every AI-extracted field is also a manual-entry field on both the mobile app and the web portal. The Daily Briefing is grounded in your specific hive history and local weather — not a generic chatbot — and the inspection record is yours to edit.

Is it really hands-free?

Yes. On Android, NFC tags on your hives let you start an inspection with a tap of your phone — first tap opens the hive, second tap starts a voice recording, no buttons. On either phone you can instead scan the hive's printed QR code with the Camera to open it, then shake the phone to start recording. Either way you speak naturally; the app captures, transcribes, and extracts structured fields without you ever scrolling a screen or removing a glove.

What happens when I lose signal in the apiary?

Every write succeeds offline. Inspection notes, photos, treatments, and harvests save to a local database on your phone the moment you record them. When the network returns, WhisperBee syncs in the background — there is no spinner blocking your work and no risk of losing data because a tower was out of reach.

How accurate is the voice transcription for beekeeping terms?

WhisperBee uses a two-stage approach tuned specifically for beekeeping. First, the speech-to-text model is primed with a vocabulary of terms beekeepers actually use — supersedure, varroa, propolis, nuc, drone laying queen, and dozens more. Then a deterministic correction layer fixes the leftover misrecognitions ("super seizure" becomes "supersedure", "vera" becomes "varroa"). This is the kind of tuning that generic dictation does not do.

Does the AI replace my judgment?

No. The inspection record is yours. Open it on the mobile app or web portal, edit any field you want to change, and that's what shows up on the hive timeline. WhisperBee is here to remember the details you cannot, surface patterns you might miss, and free your hands during the inspection itself — the call on what to do for your bees is yours.

What does the AI actually know about my hives?

For each hive, the Daily Briefing draws on three things: your inspection history for that hive, recent weather at the apiary, and a curated beekeeping knowledge base. It always uses those same sources for the same hive situation and writes a short, grounded summary — it never wanders off on its own and it never trains on your hive data. Conversational chat is on the roadmap; today the assistant surface is the Daily Briefing.

Is my data private?

Your GPS coordinates are visible only to you and any members of your organization — used for weather lookups, the map view in your portal, and apiary grouping; never aggregated or shared outside your organization. Photos are EXIF-stripped server-side before storage so location metadata cannot leak through an image. Account deletion and full data export are first-class operations. We are GDPR and CCPA aware from day one, and the AI processing pipeline is documented on the AI Disclaimer page so you know exactly what each provider sees.

How does WhisperBee scale from two hives to five hundred?

Stepped flat-rate pricing instead of per-hive billing. Free covers up to two hives, Backyard ten, Sideliner fifty, Commercial five hundred. You pay one predictable monthly amount and grow into the next tier when you outgrow the current one — no surprise charges when a swarm becomes your eleventh colony.

A note on what we are not

WhisperBee does not pretend to be a sensor system, a marketplace, or a community forum. It is a focused tool for the part of beekeeping that nobody else is building for: the moment you are standing in front of an open hive with both hands occupied and a head full of details you need to remember. Everything in the product earns its place against that one job.
